OpenAI, supported by Microsoft (MSFT), introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) search engine named SearchGPT on Thursday, which aims to compete with Alphabet’s (GOOGL) Google Search.
The company announced that it is currently testing a prototype of SearchGPT with a limited group of users. According to OpenAI, SearchGPT is designed to leverage its AI models combined with web information to deliver prompt and relevant answers, complete with clear sourcing to enhance the accuracy of results and preserve the integrity of original content.
This new search tool from OpenAI could potentially shift user traffic away from Google Search, posing a competitive challenge to Alphabet.
In response to the announcement, Alphabet’s shares fell by 1.4% to $170.20 in intraday trading on Thursday.
