Training on Adaptation Finance (Phase I-III)

The goal of this training, organized by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), is to enhance the capabilities of Access Entities (AEs), Executing Entities (EEs), and Adaptation Experts in designing effective adaptation concept notes and funding proposals for the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Phase II Training Program Overview

This phase is focused on developing participants’ skills in creating GCF concept notes for select projects identified in the National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

Part 1: Preparatory Training (September 22-24, 2024)

Format: Non-residential

Content: This segment will provide a comprehensive introduction to the GCF funding proposal template and approval mechanism. It will cover:

  • Fundamentals of climate science
  • Global and national perspectives on adaptation
  • GCF investment areas and strategic alignment
  • Funding instruments
  • Roles of National Designated Authorities (NDAs), Access Entities (AEs), and Executing Entities (EEs)
  • Detailed exploration of the GCF funding proposal templates
  • GCF approval process

Part 2: Proposal Write Shop (November 6-8, 2024)

Format: Residential

Content: This hands-on workshop will involve:

  • Developing draft concept notes for selected adaptation projects in the NAP
  • Working on six key themes: Water Resources, Disaster, Social Safety and Security, Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture and Livestock, Urban Areas, and Ecosystem, Wetlands, and Biodiversity
  • Intense group exercises with guidance from GCA capacity building consultants

Pre-Workshop Preparation: Participants will receive reading materials and assignments, and will engage in regular online classes to:

  • Build strong team dynamics
  • Understand basic modules from Part 1
  • Conceptualize at least two relevant GCF-approved projects
  • Familiarize themselves with the GCF project template and annexures
  • Develop expertise in accessing information from the GCF website

Outcome: The final concept notes developed during the workshop will be shared with interested Direct Access Entities (DAEs) or Executing Entities for further development into full funding projects.
