In a remarkable turn of events, Jeremy Renner, the acclaimed star of Avengers, is set to host a charity weekend in Las Vegas following a life-altering snowplow accident on New Year’s Day 2023. Renner, who focused on philanthropy after his recovery, will lead the RennerVation Foundation’s “Heroes Fore Kids” charity weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend features a celebrity golf and poker tournament, culminating in an all-star concert at Brooklyn Bowl at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Notable performers include Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, Gavin Rossdale of Bush, Robin Thicke, Richard Page of Mr. Mister, Rob Base, and Skip Martin of Kool & The Gang. Beyond his charitable efforts, Renner has been instrumental in advocating for the film industry in Nevada. He has represented Northern Nevada’s interests, while fellow actor Mark Wahlberg has promoted Southern Nevada as a potential film hub. Plans by Warner Bros., Discovery, and Sony Entertainment, in collaboration with Howard Hughes Corp., aim to develop film and television studios in Southern Nevada, potentially creating up to 16,000 jobs.
Renner, alongside Wahlberg, supported Senate Bill 496 during the 2023 legislative session, which proposed nearly $200 million in film infrastructure tax credits over two decades. Although the bill did not reach a vote, Renner remains optimistic about the future of the film industry in Nevada, stating, “I think it needs to happen, and will happen.” He expressed enthusiasm about the growing traction for film industry support in the state, indicating a willingness to advocate for necessary tax credits.
The RennerVation Foundation focuses on supporting children in foster care and at-risk youth, offering them safe spaces and opportunities for personal development. Since its inception ten months ago, more than 100 children have benefited from outdoor activities in Lake Tahoe, where many have engaged with musical instruments for the first time.
Renner attributes his newfound philanthropic drive to the life-changing snowplow accident, which left him with 38 broken bones and nearly cost him his life. The experience prompted him to reevaluate his priorities, leading to his commitment to community service. “Doing this for the kids and for the community is really important to me,” he stated.
Reflecting on his role in the charity event, Renner acknowledged his limited experience in event production but expressed excitement about hosting. “I’ll be the cart girl, I guess,” he quipped, adding that he would engage with participants to make the golf tournament enjoyable.
