H&M Partners with Chorka Textile to Implement Groundbreaking Sustainability Technologies

by Ivy

H&M, the global fashion retailer, is advancing its commitment to sustainability by introducing three innovative dyeing and finishing technologies at the facility of Chorka Textile, one of its major suppliers in Bangladesh. This move is part of H&M’s Green Fashion Initiative, aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of its supply chain.

The new technologies—developed by Revozona (Switzerland), imogo (Sweden), and Pluvia (Turkey)—will be integrated into Chorka’s production line, marking a significant shift toward more eco-friendly processes.

Cutting-Edge Technologies

Revozona, based in Lugano, Switzerland, has pioneered ozone-based fabric preparation technology that drastically reduces resource consumption. Compared to traditional methods, this system cuts water use by 92%, chemicals by 44%, and electricity by 49%, leading to a 92% reduction in CO2 emissions.

imogo of Limhamn, Sweden, is contributing its Dye-Max spray dyeing system, known for its efficiency and precision. The Dye-Max technology operates with an exceptionally low liquor ratio of just 0.5 liters per kilogram of fabric, significantly minimizing water usage. Additionally, the spray process uses fewer chemicals, producing very little wastewater. The low liquid content also reduces energy consumption during fixation.

The third partner, Pluvia from Turkey, offers a low-temperature washing system that efficiently removes unfixed dyes from the fabric, complementing the savings achieved by the previous technologies.

A Leap Forward in Sustainability

Ziaur Rahman, production manager at H&M for Bangladesh and Pakistan, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. “This partnership is a vital step in revolutionizing our production methods,” Rahman stated. “By integrating these three cutting-edge technologies into one production line, we aim to measure the potential savings in energy, water, and chemicals. Investing in scalable solutions is crucial as we strive to combat climate change.”

This initiative exemplifies H&M’s continued commitment to sustainability by driving innovation within its supply chain. By collaborating with leading technology providers, the company is setting a new standard for resource efficiency in the fashion industry.
