Hyundai Motor has officially introduced its latest all-electric vehicle, the 2026 Ioniq 9, a three-row SUV designed for the U.S. market that can accommodate up to seven passengers. This new model marks Hyundai’s largest electric vehicle entry to date, expanding its growing lineup that already includes the smaller Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.
The Ioniq 9 is set to hit U.S. dealerships in the spring of 2025. Hyundai has highlighted the vehicle’s impressive specifications, including the ability to fast charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes, an estimated range of 335 miles on a single charge, and a quick acceleration capability of 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.9 seconds.
While Hyundai has not yet disclosed pricing details for the Ioniq 9, it is worth noting that the Kia EV9, a similar model from Hyundai’s sister brand, starts at approximately $55,000. The Ioniq 9 features a distinctive exterior design that sets it apart from both the Kia EV9 and its smaller Hyundai counterparts.
Despite a slower-than-expected adoption of electric vehicles, Hyundai remains committed to its strategy of offering a comprehensive range of EVs in the U.S., with plans to roll out a total of 23 electric models by 2030. Through the third quarter of this year, Hyundai, along with Kia, achieved the second-highest volume of EV sales in the U.S., trailing only Tesla.
The Ioniq 9 is expected to launch in Korea and the U.S. in early 2025, with plans for a European rollout and other markets to follow. Production of the Ioniq 9 will take place at a new multibillion-dollar manufacturing facility in Georgia.
As Hyundai continues to invest in electric vehicle technology and infrastructure, the Ioniq 9 represents a significant step forward in the company’s efforts to lead in the EV market.
