The annual Christmas at the Wellesley celebration filled the venue with festive cheer on Sunday night, as local talent of all ages came together to deliver a heartwarming and lively performance. The audience, packed into the venue, eagerly participated in the show, with the highlight being a spirited rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas that nearly raised the roof with audience engagement.
The event, a true celebration of community, featured a diverse program of songs, carols, and music, all performed with infectious energy and enthusiasm. The funds raised from ticket sales, as well as donations collected at the door, are directed toward supporting local groups in the community, continuing the tradition of giving back through the arts.
This year, the proceeds from the ticket sales were donated to the Court Fields School Performing Arts Fund, which helps provide resources to encourage and support students in the creative arts. The Court Fields Glee Club made a notable appearance, with students from the school contributing to several of the performances.
The evening kicked off with the Wellington Silver Band, whose musicians added a magical touch to their instruments by decorating them with twinkling Christmas lights. Their performance set the tone for a night of merriment, and Town Crier Andrew Norris ensured the audience was fully involved by encouraging them to join in with community carols. Norris also brought two willing audience members on stage for a fun quiz, adding an interactive element to the event. Funds raised for the Silver Band will go towards making their practice room accessible for all musicians.
A series of beautiful musical performances followed, including stunning vocal duets by Hannah Green and Christina Matravers, as well as performances from the talented young duo Rise Acoutrix and Ian Jones. The evening also featured a preview of the upcoming Wellington Pantomime Group’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk, which will debut at The Wellesley on January 22nd.
The young performers from Somerset Youth Theatre added their creativity to the mix with a delightful shadow puppet performance and expressive movement pieces. Other highlights included the powerful voices of James and Lois Redstone and the talented members of the Wellington Operatic Society, who rounded out the evening with a final flourish.
The audience left the theater feeling more than ready for Christmas after two hours of delightful, homegrown entertainment that truly embodied the spirit of the season. The retiring collection from the evening will benefit the Churches Together Community Christmas Fund, ensuring that the festivities continue to give back to those in need.
A special mention is deserved for the Wellington Arts Association, whose dedication and support were key to the event’s success, ensuring the evening ran smoothly and was a joyful celebration for all involved. The applause for the performers is shared with them as well, recognizing the hard work and commitment that made this year’s event a heartwarming highlight of the holiday season.
