Despite Apple’s promise to address alarm-related issues that have plagued iPhones for nearly a year, many users are still encountering problems with the device’s built-in alarm feature.
In April 2024, Apple acknowledged a series of alarm failures after NBC’s Today show reported that iPhone alarms were sometimes failing to go off on time. The tech giant assured users it was working on a fix. However, some iPhone owners continue to experience issues, including alarms going off at incorrect times or not sounding at all.
A Reddit post by user bryanlolwut on January 10, 2025, shared a troubling example: an iPhone alarm set for 10:30 AM went off at 12:42 PM instead—the same time shown on the user’s Apple Watch. The post quickly garnered attention, with several others chiming in about similar alarm malfunctions.
“I set my alarm this morning, but it went off without sound or haptic feedback for 40 minutes,” said Slawek_Zupa, another Reddit user. Other complaints mention alarms going off hours later than scheduled, such as one user who set an alarm for 7 AM, only for it to sound at 5 PM.
These issues persist across different iOS versions, including the recently released iOS 18 and its new “Apple Intelligence” features. Some users have attempted to disable Apple’s Attention Awareness Features, which adjust the alarm volume based on face detection, but that has not resolved the problem for many.
Despite inquiries to Apple regarding whether the issue is still being investigated, the company has not yet responded. Personal experiences also point to the issue continuing, with alarms sometimes failing to produce sound or vibration, though a notification will still appear on the screen.
As users continue to search for workarounds, some have turned to other devices like the Google Pixel 8 Pro or even the Nintendo Alarmo app, though the latter seems to come with its own quirks—such as persistent Zelda-themed wake-up calls.
The ongoing alarm issue remains a frustrating problem for many iPhone users, and it’s unclear when or if a permanent fix will be rolled out.
