Apple enthusiasts can look forward to a thrilling year in 2025, with significant updates across its iPhone and Mac product lines. Reliable industry insider Mark Gurman, known for his accurate insights, has revealed a glimpse into what Apple has in store, from an ultra-thin iPhone to powerful Mac updates.
iPhone Evolution in 2025
In his latest Bloomberg newsletter, Gurman predicts a packed year for Apple’s iPhone lineup, beginning with a refresh of the long-awaited iPhone SE series. The budget-friendly iPhone SE, which last saw an update in March 2022, is set to undergo significant changes. The fourth-generation iPhone SE will depart from its traditional design and will no longer feature the iconic home button, embracing a modern look reminiscent of the iPhone 14.
In addition to the updated design, the iPhone SE will incorporate Face ID and possibly include Apple Intelligence. Gurman suggests the iPhone SE’s price could rise above the $429 mark of its predecessor, though it will likely maintain its position as a more affordable option in Apple’s portfolio.
Meanwhile, the premium iPhone 17 series is expected to debut in the fall. The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will likely see modest design improvements and feature updates, although Gurman doesn’t foresee any groundbreaking changes for the standard models.
However, a new addition to the iPhone family may steal the spotlight: the iPhone 17 Air. Building on the success of its ultra-thin “Air” models like the MacBook Air and iPad Air, Apple is reportedly working on its slimmest iPhone yet, potentially shaving off two millimeters from the current design. This model is expected to introduce Apple’s first in-house modem and a new single-lens camera system, setting the stage for future innovations, including foldable devices.
Mac Upgrades to Watch for in 2025
The Mac lineup will also receive substantial updates, with Apple continuing its successful transition to its custom silicon chips. Following the introduction of the M4 chip in the iPad Pro and subsequent updates to the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac, Gurman expects the M5 chip to make its debut in the next MacBook Pro refresh later this year.
In the meantime, Apple is preparing to launch updated versions of its 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air notebooks, featuring the M4 chip. These updated models are expected to maintain the signature slim design that has made the MacBook Air so popular.
The Mac Studio, last updated in mid-2023, is also set to receive an upgrade. Gurman notes that the M4 Max and M4 Ultra chips will likely power the higher-end Studio models, addressing the recent performance challenges posed by the Mac mini, which now outperforms the Mac Studio in certain benchmarks.
Furthermore, the Mac Pro, updated in June 2023, is rumored to receive a revision featuring the high-performance Hidra chip. While the timing remains uncertain, it’s expected to arrive before the updated MacBook Pro models.
Apple’s Expanding Ecosystem
Beyond the iPhone and Mac, Apple’s product ecosystem is likely to grow in 2025. The company has expanded its focus on AI with Apple Intelligence, and more announcements are expected across its other offerings, including the Apple TV, Vision Pro, and a variety of audio products. As Apple continues to innovate and refine its product lineup, 2025 is poised to be a landmark year for the tech giant.
With the potential for new advancements in both hardware and software, Apple’s influence in the tech industry is only set to deepen as the company prepares to make a lasting impact in the AI space.
