As the Eastside Business Awards 2025 nominations open, we check in with last year’s winners to see how their businesses have evolved since their recognition. One standout is physiotherapist Matt Heavyside, founder of MOTUM, a ground-breaking mobility training program launched within his physiotherapy practice, Physio Smart, on Payneham Road.
Launched in April 2021, MOTUM combines targeted mobility exercises with engaging group sessions that enhance strength, flexibility, stability, and joint health. The program quickly gained traction, leading Physio Smart to win both the Best Customer Service and Best Professional Service Awards in the 2024 Eastside Business Awards, voted for by the public.
What sets MOTUM apart is its ability to make traditional physiotherapy exercises both fun and accessible, fostering an environment where clients can engage with their health in a dynamic and supportive way. “Winning this award reinforced our passion for exceptional customer service and motivated us to continue exceeding our clients’ expectations every day,” said a team member from Physio Smart.
MOTUM has expanded its reach through online memberships, allowing clients to access guided movement videos from anywhere at any time. These digital sessions, designed as “exercise snacks” that target specific areas of the body, make the program even more accessible. The platform also offers clear instructions on how to adapt movements, ensuring users can progress safely while maintaining the benefits of in-person sessions.
With the success of MOTUM, Matt and his team are preparing to open a second studio in Highgate next month, a project that has been in the works for the past year. This expansion marks a significant milestone for Physio Smart, reflecting both their growing success and their ongoing commitment to the community.
