US, Singapore deepen AI and emerging technologies partnership

The US and Singapore have committed to deepening their strategic technology partnership by working together in critical and emerging technology areas, including AI and biotechnology.

They also aim to strengthen cooperation in critical infrastructure and technology supply chains, and promote climate and resilient infrastructure. The two countries have also committed to supporting decarbonisation and renewable energy development in the ASEAN region.

Deepening the US-Singapore Strategic Technology Partnership

The US and Singapore have agreed to deepen their “Strategic Technology Partnership” by expanding cooperation in six critical and emerging technology areas. These include AI, critical infrastructure, biotechnology, and more. The first US-Singapore Critical and Emerging Technology Dialogue was launched during a visit to Washington by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister. This dialogue will facilitate discussions on the risks, opportunities, and national security implications of technological advances in these six priority areas.

Bilateral Initiatives and Cooperation in Focus Areas

Following the first CET dialogue, both countries have committed to launch bilateral initiatives and strengthen cooperation in high-end and emerging technology areas. These will focus on AI, digital economy and data governance, biotechnology, critical infrastructure, defence innovation, technology supply chains, and quantum information science and technology.

Promoting critical infrastructure and technology supply chains

In addition to the above, the US and Singapore aim to strengthen cooperation on critical infrastructure and technology supply chains. They will promote climate-smart and resilient critical infrastructure such as telecommunications networks, undersea cables, and cloud computing in both countries and their partner nations. Building on the US-Singapore Climate Partnership established in 2021, the two countries will also support decarbonisation and renewable energy development in the ASEAN region. Other commitments made during the CET Dialogue were also announced.
