This is the capacity of the Tesla Cybertruck batteries.

To coincide with the delivery of its first batch of 2024 Cybertrucks, Tesla has revealed more details about its battery-electric pickup truck, which offers up to 845 horsepower and can tow up to 11,000 pounds.

However, the company left one thing out of the truck’s spec sheet: its battery capacity. Fortunately, our engineering team is adept at sifting through data and solving complicated mathematical equations. With Tesla telling us that the mid-range 600hp all-wheel-drive Cybertruck can travel an estimated 340 miles on a full charge, using 42.9 kWh of electricity every 100 miles, our team of number crunchers was able to deduce the estimated capacity of the multi-motor model’s battery pack.

However, calculating this figure required some assumptions. In particular, we had to assume that Tesla used the EPA’s methods to arrive at these figures. With that assumption made, we used data from our test of a 2020 Tesla Model Y Performance as a reference to ensure the accuracy of our estimate.

Cue a montage of numbers, notations and equations superimposed over the tired but determined mugs of our editors as they scribbled numbers and formulas on the office whiteboard, then erased those numbers and formulas, then scribbled some more. After several cups of coffee and cigarettes, our editors finally reached a consensus: the net battery capacity of the Cybertruck 4×4 is somewhere between 125.0 and 130.0 kWh.

But you want a specific number, right? So, for the sake of argument, let’s meet in the middle and call it 127.5 kWh – or 128.0 kWh if you prefer a whole number.

Although this estimated capacity applies specifically to the Cybertruck AWD for which Tesla has provided efficiency figures, we’re almost certain that the top-of-the-range 845bhp Cybertruck Cyberbeast uses the same pack to achieve its manufacturer’s estimated range of 320 miles.

If those range estimates seem a little low to you, don’t worry. Tesla offers an optional range extender in the form of an extra battery pack mounted in the bed of the Cybertruck. Opting for this item pushes the ranges of the Cybertruck’s four-wheel drive and the Cyberbeast north of 470 and 440 miles respectively, according to Tesla. The company does not give a capacity figure for the range extender, nor have we done the maths to find out.
