A lot of AI and a ‘glare-free’ OLED model in Samsung’s 2024 TV line-up at CES 2024

Samsung has revealed its latest television lineup at CES 2024, showcasing new AI-powered features and advancements in display technology. While finer product details, including pricing, are expected to be disclosed later, the company provided a preview of its offerings.

The spotlight is on Samsung’s new 8K TVs, equipped with innovative AI-powered features aimed at enhancing the viewing experience. One notable feature is the upscaling technology, designed to address the scarcity of native 8K content. Samsung claims that its QN900D model, ranging from 65 to 85 inches, is the “slimmest, most premium 8K TV to ever hit the market.” The AI Upscaling Pro feature converts 4K content into 8K, offering a solution for the current lack of native 8K streaming options.

In addition to resolution upscaling, the QN900D includes algorithmic features like Real Depth Enhancer Pro, enhancing contrast in fast-paced content like sports and car racing. The television is also equipped to recognize when sports are being watched, assisting in tracking the game’s ball on the screen.

Samsung’s QLED (8K and 4K) and OLED televisions boast the Active Voice Amplifier Pro, an advanced feature enhancing dialog and key sound effects for a more immersive audio experience. The AI Customization Mode prompts users to choose their preferred picture during setup, utilizing AI to optimize the picture based on user preferences for different scenes.

For those seeking a presumably more affordable option, Samsung introduces the QN85D, an 8K QLED TV that lacks the advanced AI conversion features. The 4K NEO QLED lineup includes the QN90D and QN85D.

Samsung’s OLED models for 2024, such as the S90D and S95D, ranging from 55 to 77 inches, incorporate the “OLED Glare Free” technology. The company asserts that this technology allows for an optimal viewing experience in both bright and dark rooms without compromising viewing angles or contrast. The S95D features a 4K 144Hz panel and measures just under 11mm thick.

In response to the growing demand for larger screens, Samsung introduces “more ultra-large screen options than ever,” including 98-inch models in various lineups. The Supersize Picture Enhancer feature employs AI upscaling to enhance sharpness and reduce visible noise on larger screens, addressing the challenge of discernible pixels with increasing screen size.

Engadget will provide a detailed exploration of the hardware and software-based features of Samsung’s new televisions at CES 2024, with a focus on the company’s press conference scheduled for Monday at 5 PM ET.
