Ian McKellen, renowned actor, is on the road to recovery following a fall during a performance at a theater in London, according to a statement issued by the producers of the play in which he stars.
The play, “Player Kings,” a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV” by writer and director Robert Icke, saw McKellen fall during Monday night’s performance. The producers expressed gratitude for the audience and public’s well wishes in response to the incident.
“After a scan, the brilliant NHS team have assured us that he will make a speedy and full recovery and Ian is in good spirits,” the statement assured. “The production has made the decision to cancel the performance on Tuesday, June 18, so Ian can rest.”
The statement also extended appreciation to two doctors who were present in the audience for their immediate assistance.
Currently in the midst of a 12-week run at the Noël Coward Theatre, McKellen stars alongside Richard Coyle and Toheeb Jimoh, known for his role in “Ted Lasso.” The production remains committed to McKellen’s recovery and the continuation of the show following his recuperation.
