Oscar-nominated actor Glenn Close, 77, is in recovery mode after contracting both COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) while filming in London. In a video shared on her Instagram page Wednesday, Close revealed she had only been on set for two days shooting “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” before falling ill.
“As of today, I finally feel like I’m getting back to myself,” Close said. “I’ll have to start all over again and get into the rhythm of shooting. Hopefully, I can be back on set tomorrow.”
Close noted that the dual infections hit her hard but expressed her excitement about being in London and her eagerness to resume filming with her co-stars.
RSV is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms but can be severe, particularly for infants and older adults. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases reports that approximately 64 million people worldwide contract RSV annually.
Although current COVID-19 case numbers are relatively low—with only 3% to 4% of tests returning positive according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—the US Food and Drug Administration’s advisory committee recently recommended updating COVID-19 vaccines for the 2024-2025 season.
In her Instagram caption, Close wrote about her recovery, calling it a “crazy way to start a movie,” and advised her followers to “wear a mask in crowds” and “be well.”
“Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” directed by Rian Johnson, is the third installment of the “Knives Out” franchise, following 2019’s “Knives Out” and 2022’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoit Blanc, leading an ensemble cast featuring Josh Brolin, Cailee Spaeny, Kerry Washington, Jeremy Renner, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis, and Thomas Haden Church. The film is set to premiere in theaters in 2025.
