Sean “Diddy” Combs Seeks Dismissal of Sexual Assault Lawsuit from Producer Rodney Jones

by Ivy

Sean “Diddy” Combs is aiming to dismiss a civil lawsuit filed by music producer Rodney Jones, also known as “Lil Rod,” who has accused the businessman and musician of sexual assault, harassment, and grooming. In a motion filed Monday in the Southern District of New York, Combs argues that Jones’ lawsuit is baseless and intended solely for financial gain and media attention.

Jones, who worked with Combs on his 2023 album “Love,” alleges that he was not paid for his production work, was coerced into procuring and interacting with sex workers, threatened, and served drug-laced alcohol at Combs’ parties. He is seeking $30 million in damages. Jones initially filed the lawsuit in February 2024 and has since voluntarily dismissed some defendants from the case, a motion granted by the court in May.

Combs’ motion to dismiss characterizes Jones’ allegations as “legally meaningless” and “blatant falsehoods,” claiming that the lawsuit is filled with exaggerations and fails to present a legitimate legal claim. The motion also targets claims of a “pattern of racketeering activity,” liability for third-party actions, and emotional distress suffered by Jones.

In response to the motion, Jones’ attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, has criticized it as a “delay tactic” and a “billing exercise” by Combs’ legal team. Blackburn asserts that Jones’ lawsuit is supported by substantial evidence.

Additionally, Combs has accused Jones of exploiting the allegations to enhance his personal brand, pointing to a social media video where Jones appeared to be laughing and smiling about the lawsuit. According to a source close to Combs, a cease-and-desist letter was issued regarding this video.

Jones’ lawsuit is one of nine legal actions against Combs since November, with eight specifically alleging sexual assault. Combs and his son, Christian Combs, have denied all accusations. One lawsuit from Combs’ former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, has been settled, and a video showing Combs physically abusing Ventura led to his public apology, though he maintains most allegations are untrue.

In addition to the civil suits, Combs is under a federal investigation, with the possibility of a grand jury indictment, though no formal target letter has been issued yet. Combs is actively challenging multiple aspects of the ongoing litigation.
