Adele has announced that she plans to take a significant break from performing once her Las Vegas residency wraps up in November. During her concert in Munich on Saturday, the Grammy-winning singer revealed that she intends to step away from the spotlight for an indeterminate period to focus on her personal life.
“I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it,” Adele said, her voice filled with emotion. “I want to live the new life that I have been building.” She hinted that it might be a long time before she returns to the stage.
The singer’s announcement follows a period of personal and professional changes. In 2019, Adele and her then-husband, Simon Konecki, announced their separation. She has since been in a relationship with sports agent Rich Paul, though they have remained private about their engagement status.
Saturday’s concert in Munich marked the end of Adele’s 10-show European residency. She will perform the remaining dates of her Las Vegas residency, “Weekends with Adele,” which began in January 2022 and is set to conclude on November 23.
Reflecting on her recent performances, Adele expressed gratitude to her fans, saying, “Thank you to everyone who’s come to any of my shows ever.” She mentioned that while the experience has been incredible, she now needs a rest.
Adele has a history of taking extended breaks between albums. Her most recent album, “30,” was released in 2021, six years after her previous release, “25.” She took time off after the release of her debut album in 2008 and her second album in 2011, including a hiatus for throat surgery and time off following the birth of her son in 2012.
In a July interview with German broadcaster ZDF, Adele hinted at stepping back from touring to explore other creative pursuits.
