San Francisco, September 12, 2024 – The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (the Lab) is gearing up to unveil its 2025 Call for Ideas on September 26. This initiative aims to identify and support at least nine groundbreaking concepts designed to address barriers in climate investments and advance the transition towards a net-zero economy.
The Lab is seeking proposals that focus on innovative strategies in three critical sectors: adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable food and agriculture systems. Each sector will spotlight one winning idea, while the geographic focus includes Brazil, Southern and East Africa, India, the Philippines, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Notably, Latin America and the Caribbean will select two proposals.
Selected ideas will benefit from a robust support package that encompasses expert advice, technical assistance, funder mapping, networking opportunities, and support for pilot implementations. This program is crafted to enhance the development of innovative climate finance solutions within emerging markets.
Established in 2014, the Lab is an initiative supported by over 100 public and private investors and institutions. Its mission is to expedite the deployment of solutions that catalyze private investment and advance sustainable development goals in emerging economies. To date, the Lab has introduced 68 instruments that have collectively mobilized more than USD 4 billion.
Ben Broché, Associate Director at Climate Policy Initiative and leader of the Lab’s efforts, stated, “With the Lab’s expanding focus on various sectors and regions, we aim to refine our approach to enhance the experience for proposers and improve transparency and efficiency.”
For the 2025 Call for Ideas, the Lab will implement a new two-phase application process:
Preliminary Application: Prospective applicants can submit preliminary applications from September 26 to November 7.
Full Application: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit a comprehensive application between November 21 and December 12, providing further details for an in-depth evaluation.
To assist applicants, the Lab will conduct four informational webinars:
- Global Program: October 16, 12 PM EST.
- Regional Programs (Africa, India, and The Philippines): October 16, 9 AM GMT.
- Brazil Program (in Portuguese): October 17, 3 PM BRT.
- Latin America and the Caribbean Program (in Spanish): October 17, 12 PM EST.
