A Cheltenham-based African events catering and coffee shop business, ACELBA, has recently received a significant boost with a £25,000 Start Up Loan from SWIG Finance. This funding will be instrumental in launching the business, covering essential expenses such as premises and equipment costs, marketing, and inventory.
Diverse Offerings in Food and Events
ACELBA aims to provide a unique dining experience by stocking a variety of grab-and-go food and beverages in its coffee shop. The events kitchen will specialize in upscale catering for special occasions, including festivals and markets, as well as bespoke events like birthday parties and anniversaries.
Led by Angele Baku-Attipoe, an experienced chef and kitchen manager, ACELBA focuses on Togolese and Ghanaian cuisine. Baku-Attipoe’s vision for the business includes expanding her team over the next year, with plans to hire a barista and kitchen assistants.
Support from SWIG Finance
Angele Baku-Attipoe expressed her gratitude for the funding, stating, “This funding is an invaluable resource to my business. Without it, I may not have been able to move forward with my business idea.” She credited her advisor, Suzy, for her support during the application process, emphasizing the crucial role SWIG Finance has played in helping her realize her business dreams.
Suzy Lowe, SWIG’s Start Up Loan officer, highlighted Baku-Attipoe’s strong reputation in the local community and her previous experience in the catering industry. “Having worked previously in senior positions within the catering industry, Angele has built a strong reputation in her local community and is well-known for her high-quality and interesting menus,” she noted. Lowe further remarked on the ambitious nature of the new enterprise, stating, “This new enterprise is based on ambition and sector experience, coupled with a huge dose of enthusiasm – working with Angele on her application has been a breath of fresh air.”
Official Opening Ceremony
The business was officially opened at the end of August by Cheltenham Borough’s Mayor, Cllr Paul Baker, marking a significant milestone for ACELBA. With the support of the Start Up Loan and the dedication of its team, the business is poised to make a notable impact in the Cheltenham area, enriching the local culinary landscape with its authentic African cuisine.
