Kromek, a leader in radiation and bio-detection technology, has been officially added to the UK Government’s Radiological Nuclear Detection Framework. This framework is designed to streamline the procurement of radiological nuclear (RN) detection equipment and services for the Home Office.
The initiative aims to centralize and enhance the procurement processes for RN detection tools, serving the Home Office, Counter Terrorism Police, and other relevant public bodies. Its goal is to bolster domestic nuclear security and align with the Home Office’s strategic objectives.
Based in Huddersfield, Kromek applied for and was granted approval in three of the four framework categories: handheld, wearable, and large volume static radiation detectors. As a result, Kromek is now pre-qualified for orders in these categories, which collectively have a maximum procurement value of up to £84 million over the next four years.
Arnab Basu, CEO of Kromek, expressed his satisfaction with the achievement: “We are honored to be among the select few approved suppliers for radiological nuclear detection equipment under this critical Home Office framework. Our longstanding relationship with the UK government and recent successes, including our selection under the UK Government Resilience Framework and a contract with the Ministry of Defence, underscore our commitment to enhancing national security.”
Basu further highlighted the momentum Kromek is experiencing, citing the company’s expanding role in supplying detection technology to emergency services and defense sectors. He added, “We are excited about our ongoing contributions to improving the UK’s defenses against radiological threats and look forward to sharing further progress in this area.”
