Yorkshire Dales Women’s Business Network Makes a Strong Comeback

by Ivy

The Dales Business Women network has been revitalized with a fresh leadership team and a renewed commitment to supporting female entrepreneurs across the Yorkshire Dales. The initiative aims to foster innovation and provide a platform for businesswomen in this picturesque yet challenging rural region.

Founded seven years ago, the network has undergone a significant transformation. Katy Howe, a photographer, and Alison Laws, the senior economic development officer at North Yorkshire Council, have taken the reins of the organization. Their leadership marks a pivotal moment for the network, which was officially relaunched this past Wednesday.

Katy Howe expressed her enthusiasm about the network’s potential, stating, “North Yorkshire boasts a wealth of like-minded women who are deeply committed to achieving their professional aspirations. Our goal is to alter the prevailing perception that business opportunities are scarce in this region. The Yorkshire Dales and its neighboring areas are teeming with dynamic women making impactful contributions.”

Cllr Carl Les, Leader of North Yorkshire Council, emphasized the importance of such networks. “Organizations like Dales Business Women play a crucial role in facilitating connections, sharing ideas, and fostering business growth. In rural areas, networking can be challenging, so we wholeheartedly support any initiative that bridges that gap.”

Carolyn Frank, Development Manager for York and North Yorkshire at the Federation of Small Businesses, welcomed the network’s resurgence. “Local networks are vital for small businesses. They offer opportunities to expand contacts, access local business advice, and build meaningful relationships. This group is known for its friendly and proactive approach, and we anticipate it will significantly enhance local enterprises.”

The network will convene monthly, with meetings scheduled to accommodate a variety of schedules. The relaunch event took place at the Black Bull in Moulton, near Richmond, featuring a presentation by Paula Richardson from Smart Bee Sales on optimizing sales strategies for the holiday season.

Membership is priced at £10 per month, with meetings planned for the first Wednesday of each month, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The group aims to offer flexible scheduling to ensure broad accessibility for all members.
