Colleagues from Cardiff’s Imperial Chartered and Cornerstone Finance Group are gearing up to tackle the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon, aiming to hit their ambitious fundraising goal of £50,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
Since 2021, the team has been passionately supporting the MNDA through various fundraising events, including charity golf days, raffles, Christmas jumper days, and a rigorous 3,000 Squat Challenge. Their relentless efforts have already accumulated £33,500 towards their cause. Now, they are focusing on securing the remaining £16,500 through sponsorships for the upcoming Cardiff Half Marathon scheduled for October 6th.
In a show of solidarity, Rob Williams, a team member currently on sabbatical in Australia, will participate in the Perth Half Marathon on the same day to contribute to the fundraising effort.
The MNDA cause holds a personal significance for several key figures within the organization. Gareth Morgan and Jason Jones, co-founders of Imperial Chartered, along with Cornerstone Finance Group CEO Haydn Thomas and Cornerstone Commercial Finance’s managing director Kevin Morgan, have long been connected to the cause. Their bond with Markus Matthews, whose wife Christine was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) six years ago, has fueled their commitment.
Haydn Thomas remarked on the personal connection to the charity:
“We have known Markus and Christine for many years and deeply admire their resilience in facing this challenging disease. Through them, we’ve established a strong relationship with the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan branch of MNDA. We have witnessed firsthand the dedication of the charity’s volunteers in supporting individuals with MND, their families, and caregivers.”
Thomas added, “Our goal is to contribute meaningfully to the fight against MND and support the charity’s invaluable work. We have set a challenging target, but our determination remains unwavering. We encourage everyone in our network to contribute and help us achieve this £50,000 milestone. Every donation makes a significant impact.”
The Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan branch of MNDA operates solely through the efforts of volunteers, serving Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, and Rhondda Cynon Taff. The branch organizes regular meetings for people living with MND, their families, and caregivers, offering a platform for support, information sharing, and access to resources such as specialist equipment and small grants.
