LONDON – KEF has unveiled the latest generation of its Q Series loudspeakers, now enhanced with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) designed to elevate audio experiences. The new lineup marks a significant advancement from the acclaimed previous Q Series, bringing high-fidelity sound within reach of more consumers.
The Q Series includes eight distinct models, tailored for various audio setups—from traditional stereo systems to immersive multi-channel home theaters. This range promises to meet the diverse needs of audio enthusiasts seeking enhanced sound quality at home.
At the heart of the new series is the integration of MAT, which works alongside KEF’s 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array. This innovative technology features a complex, maze-like structure that absorbs specific sound frequencies, effectively acting as an “acoustic black hole” that eliminates 99% of unwanted sound and distortion.
The redesigned Uni-Q driver array optimizes the benefits of MAT, incorporating a conical waveguide that enhances the tweeter’s performance. Furthermore, improvements in the tweeter gap damper—featuring two rings of strategically placed porous material—reduce resonances, enhancing clarity and detail.
For improved sound quality, select models within the Q Series have transitioned from a 2.5-way to a more sophisticated 3-way design, including the Q11 Meta, Q7 Meta, Q Concerto Meta, and Q6 Meta. This redesign allows for a more precise separation of frequency ranges, with dedicated drivers for low, midrange, and high frequencies.
The Q Series offers a variety of configurations, including two three-way floor-standing models, the Q11 Meta and Q7 Meta, as well as bookshelf options like the Q Concerto Meta, a nod to the classic KEF Concerto from 1969. The range also features the compact Q3 Meta and Q1 Meta speakers.
New to the Q Series is the Q4 Meta, the first on-wall speaker, designed for flexible use as a left, center, or right speaker, or as part of a surround setup. The Q6 Meta also serves in an LCR configuration, providing a consistent soundstage with the same Uni-Q driver. Additionally, the Q8 Meta can be positioned for Dolby Atmos applications, enhancing the listening experience with height effects.
KEF’s Q Series combines contemporary aesthetics with functionality, available in Satin Black, Satin White, and Walnut finishes, designed to complement any interior décor. The speakers also come with dedicated grilles that feature magnetic fixing for a sleek, seamless look.
Pricing details are forthcoming, but KEF promises this new series will deliver high-quality audio experiences tailored to a wide range of preferences, making it easier than ever for users to create their ideal sound environments.
