Olympic medalists Steve Cram and Allison Curbishley are set to headline the Worcester Business Expo, scheduled for Thursday, October 10, at the University Arena. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year’s expo will focus on promoting health and wellbeing support available for local businesses. The public health team from Worcestershire County Council is sponsoring a dedicated health and wellbeing zone, offering a range of complimentary support services tailored to business needs.

During the expo, Cram and Curbishley will join forces with the public health team to raise awareness about the Worcester City and Wythall fun runs, which encourage community members to engage in physical activity. Businesses are encouraged to motivate their employees to take part in initiatives such as the Couch to 5K program and the Business Challenge, or to explore other forms of employee support.

Councillor David Ross, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council, emphasized the importance of supporting local health initiatives: “We support people to live well and in good health for as long as possible. We not only work with communities and local people, but we also listen to their needs and invest directly in them. We believe in the power of local communities to improve health. Workplaces present significant opportunities to promote health and wellbeing for a healthier Worcestershire.”

The expo will also provide an opportunity for businesses to connect with representatives from the Work Well Live Better program, which offers resources, support, and training aimed at fostering positive changes in workforce health and wellbeing. Additionally, attendees can learn about the Orange Button scheme, designed to support employee mental health. This initiative allows trained individuals to wear a button indicating their readiness to provide a listening ear and connect colleagues to community support resources.

Furthermore, information will be available on free services for individuals looking to quit smoking. This includes weekly telephone support, product advice, and vouchers for vaping products for up to four weeks.

Business leaders will also have the chance to engage with the grants team regarding the Net Zero grants, which provide funding of up to 75 percent to help businesses reduce costs and carbon emissions. A Local Support, Grants, and Funding Seminar will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., exploring available options for businesses in the area.
