Prince Harry has reportedly found a sanctuary in the UK during his visits, retreating to the historic Althorp estate in Northamptonshire. The 13,000-acre property, which has been in the Spencer family for over 500 years, is not only a family home but also the resting place of his late mother, Princess Diana.
Althorp is valued at hundreds of millions, with 31 bedrooms, a games room, and a spa, providing Harry with much-needed privacy during his trips. According to royal expert Phil Dampier, Althorp offers Harry the ideal escape from the constant media spotlight in London. It is said that Harry will likely stay there again in April, particularly as he prepares for his upcoming court cases.
Panos further revealed that Althorp is expected to serve as Harry’s base during the Invictus Games in 2027, which will take place in Birmingham, not far from the estate.
Previously, Harry and Meghan resided at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, but they vacated the property after relocating to California. Althorp’s significance goes beyond its luxury; it holds sentimental value for Harry as the childhood home of Princess Diana, and he’s said to spend reflective moments there, connected to her memory.
Althorp is currently managed by Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, who has reportedly invited Harry and Meghan to stay at the estate during UK visits. As the property will eventually be passed down to Harry’s cousin, Louis, Viscount Althorp, its future in the family remains secure.
Dampier also shared insights on the evolving relationship between Harry and his uncle, Earl Spencer. With Harry’s strained relationship with his brother, Prince William, the bond with his uncle appears to have grown more significant. The estate offers Harry a less complicated stay, far from the royal spotlight, which may be more comfortable for the family, especially amidst ongoing tensions.
The royal brothers’ relationship remains strained, particularly after Harry’s memoir, Spare, and the subsequent Netflix documentary that aired a string of criticisms against the royal family. Though the brothers have not interacted much, it is reported that Harry stayed at Althorp during the recent memorial for their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, further underscoring his need for distance.
As the family feud continues, Althorp remains a haven for Prince Harry, where he can stay out of the limelight and reflect on his late mother’s legacy.
