The new facility is set to bolster Cemex’s production capabilities in southern England and further solidify its standing as a prominent supplier of sprayed dry mortar solutions.
Expected to begin operations later this year, the plant will specialize in producing Cemex’s innovative Vertua lower-carbon mortar, which boasts a 30% reduction in carbon footprint compared to conventional mortars. This environmentally-friendly product is made possible through advanced admixture technology and an optimized production process. Moreover, the plant will feature an advanced drying system designed to significantly cut energy use and lower fuel consumption.
Fernando A. González, CEO of Cemex, highlighted the strategic importance of this project, stating, “This new plant is a crucial part of our growth strategy, which includes both targeted acquisitions and greenfield initiatives in mature markets. It will enhance our production capabilities in the UK, drive forward our decarbonization goals, and enable us to deliver an even more efficient service to our customers in the region.”
The expansion forms part of Cemex’s broader business strategy, which has seen significant investments in growth initiatives since 2020. Last year, these investments contributed to a notable US$344 million increase in the company’s consolidated EBITDA. Cemex’s Urbanization Solutions business has played a pivotal role in driving this growth, positioning it as a key contributor to the company’s overall success.
