Las Vegas authorities have concluded their criminal battery investigation into a recent incident involving rapper Cardi B, who threw a microphone at a member of the crowd during her performance. The incident unfolded at Drai’s Beachclub over the weekend when an audience member reportedly tossed water at the artist.
The incident, captured on multiple fan-recorded videos and widely circulated on social media, showed security personnel intervening as they surrounded the individual responsible for the water throw. The microphone was eventually recovered.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated, “After a thorough review of this case and with the consultation from the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, this case has been closed as having insufficient evidence. No charges will be filed in relation to this case.”
In response, legal representatives for Cardi B expressed gratitude to the police for their swift resolution of the matter. The Grammy Award-winner’s lawyers conveyed their appreciation in a statement reported by various media outlets.
Footage from earlier in the concert depicted Cardi B inviting a different audience member to spray her from behind, with her back turned to the crowd. Later in the performance, she explained that the initial spray was at her request, but she objected to the unexpected water toss that hit her face.
Las Vegas police had initially confirmed that a show attendee reported a battery incident. However, subsequent investigation led to the determination that no crime had been committed.
Remarkably, the microphone that was at the center of the incident has now reportedly appeared on eBay for auction, with bids exceeding $99,000. The microphone’s current owner, an audio company, initiated the auction.
Cardi B, renowned for hits like “I Like It,” “Up,” “Bodak Yellow,” and her collaboration “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion, is the latest artist to experience onstage disturbances involving thrown objects. Similar incidents have involved artists such as Harry Styles, Pink, Bebe Rexha, and Ava Max, highlighting the challenges faced by performers in managing crowd interactions during live shows.
