Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Meta, formerly Facebook, has engaged in a playful exchange with rival entrepreneur Elon Musk regarding a proposed cage fight between the two tech moguls. In a post on the new social media app Threads, Zuckerberg disclosed that he suggested August 26th as the date for the showdown.
This lighthearted sparring comes following Musk’s earlier claim on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was training rigorously for the potential match. Responding to Musk’s training claim, Zuckerberg humorously stated, “I’m ready today… but he hasn’t confirmed.”
The playful rivalry between the two gained momentum in July when Meta launched Threads, directly pitting them against each other in the social media sphere.
When questioned about the potential fight’s mutual agreement, Zuckerberg invoked a tongue-in-cheek reference to Musk’s past claims about funding for Tesla, stating that it was more like “funding secured.” Musk’s previous announcement about taking Tesla private led to a legal settlement and financial penalties.
Musk introduced an additional layer of uncertainty by mentioning a potential need for surgery on his neck and upper back, which could impact the fight’s timing. He also suggested that the exact date remained uncertain.
In response to speculation that the fight could be broadcast on Musk’s platform X, Zuckerberg raised the question of using a more dependable platform for charity fundraising.
Musk had asserted that any proceeds from the bout would be donated to veterans’ charities, framing the fight as a “civilized form of war,” while emphasizing that it’s a concept embraced by men.
Despite the jesting, both individuals have demonstrated a competitive edge. Zuckerberg, who has a passion for martial arts, expressed his love for the sport and willingness to continue competing against dedicated opponents.
This light-hearted back-and-forth occurs against the backdrop of Meta’s launch of Threads, which saw impressive sign-up figures in its initial days but later encountered a drop in user engagement.
Musk, who took over X and made significant changes to the platform, has faced criticisms and controversy in his role. Nonetheless, the banter between the two influential figures adds a touch of entertainment to the tech world’s ongoing developments.
