As the countdown to the Summer Olympics in Paris begins, an ambitious aviation start-up, Volocopter, is poised to embark on its own history-making journey. In parallel with athletes striving for Olympic glory, Volocopter’s innovative electric aircraft, the VoloCity, is scheduled to ferry passengers across the skies of Paris. This milestone operation will mark Europe’s pioneering deployment of an electric vertical take-off and landing (EVTOL) aircraft service.
In a global landscape where numerous companies are diligently developing EVTOL aircraft, Volocopter stands at the forefront, envisioning quieter, cost-effective, and emission-free aviation options that can conveniently access urban centers.
Volocopter is optimistic about obtaining regulatory approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to operate its VoloCity for passenger transport within the upcoming months. This strategic aim is set to position Volocopter to facilitate seamless transportation services during the 2024 Olympics.
Christian Bauer, Chief Financial Officer of the German-based firm, expressed confidence in the timeline, affirming, “Everything is ready and set to go for the middle of next year.”
The ambitious plan entails establishing three routes connecting central Paris with the city’s airports and heliport. Volocopter’s innovative approach is not limited to practicality but extends to enhancing the urban experience by offering round-trip sightseeing opportunities.
