Temporary Covid-19 restrictions that were implemented at the largest hospital in the Western Isles have been lifted after a week. The measures were enacted in response to a small number of positive virus cases detected across two wards at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, Lewis.
In light of the situation, visiting restrictions were imposed and both visitors and clinical personnel were required to wear face masks. However, as of the 15th of August, these measures have been rescinded.
NHS Western Isles has urged visitors who exhibit any respiratory symptoms or feel unwell to refrain from visiting the hospital to prevent potential spread.
While the use of face masks is no longer mandatory, the health board has stated that masks will still be available for those who choose to wear them.
NHS Western Isles expressed its gratitude for the cooperation and understanding shown by patients and visitors during the past week. The health board also commended its staff for effectively managing the outbreak situation at the hospital.
Medical Ward 1 experienced temporary closure for select patients on the 13th of August, followed shortly by restrictions in a specific area of Medical Ward 2.
