A groundbreaking medical achievement has taken place in Oxford as surgeons successfully conducted the United Kingdom’s inaugural womb transplant.
The pioneering procedure involved a 34-year-old recipient and her 40-year-old sister, who graciously donated her womb. The identities of the two individuals are being protected at their request.
Medical professionals have reported positive outcomes for both the recipient and the donor, with the younger sister and her husband having embryos stored for future transfer.
The intricate surgeries, led by a team of approximately 20 medical experts, spanned approximately 17 hours and took place simultaneously in adjacent operating theaters at the Churchill hospital. The significant milestone was reached this past February.
The donor sister, who already has two children and has completed her own family planning, selflessly chose to participate in this groundbreaking endeavor. Notably, both sisters reside in England.
