Frustration has mounted among users of the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel as they endure a persistent and multi-day system outage, significantly impacting their interactions on the platform.
Promoting itself as the “dating app for serious daters,” the application first experienced disruptions on August 27, rendering users unable to access their potential romantic connections. As the issue persisted, entering its third day, the app’s engineering team acknowledged an ongoing “system outage.”
With a global user base exceeding 10 million sign-ups, including a substantial presence across Asia, the Silicon Valley-based company’s online presence has been completely incapacitated. Attempts to visit their website yield a 503 Service error message.
In a recent company update issued on Tuesday evening local time, Coffee Meets Bagel assured its users, “We’re making solid progress, and we’re on track to get things back up and running.”
The statement further read, “We’ll send you both an email and a push notification once things are fixed.”
Despite the assurance, the prolonged downtime has led to mounting concerns and frustrations among app users. Speculation has arisen on various fronts, ranging from ransomware attacks to data breaches, with even suggestions of potential internal sabotage.
The extended disruption underscores the challenges of maintaining digital platforms at scale and the tangible impact such outages can have on user experience and the reputation of service providers.
