Pre-orders for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to be accepted shortly after the Made by Google event ends on 4 October. Those in the US who pre-order a Pixel 8 Pro from Google will receive a free Pixel Watch 2. So, starting at the rumoured price of $899.99, US consumers can get the new top-of-the-line Pixel and a new Pixel Watch with the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip instead of the aging 10nm Exynos 9100 from 2018 that powered the OG watch.
For those looking to keep up with the Pixel ecosystem, this is an improvement on the $200 Google Store credit that US consumers received last year for pre-ordering the Pixel 7 Pro. Those in the US who pre-ordered the Pixel 7 received a $100 Google Store credit. Unfortunately, at the moment we don’t know what Google will be giving away for pre-ordering a Pixel 8 (which is rumoured to be priced $100 higher, starting at $699).
Other leaked images from the Google Store show promos for Pixel features like Clear Calling and Live Translate. Both use AI, and while one offers clear calls with no background noise, the other offers real-time translation in 49 languages. Another page discusses the Pixel 8’s security features, and another reminds you that the Pixel Watch can be used to take a photo with your Pixel phone.
The leaked Google Store pages also say that the Pixel 8 series offers “fast charging” and “all-day battery you can count on”. A page on camera features mentions Super Res Zoom, Macro Focus, Night Sight and Magic Editor. The latter allows users to make all sorts of changes to a photo after it has been processed. The video recording page discusses the new Audio Magic Eraser, which removes unwanted noise from audio recorded during video recording.
A couple of pages discuss the Pixel 8 Pro’s camera setup, which includes a 50MP main camera for better low-light photos, a 48MP ultra-wide camera for better macro photos, a 48MP telephoto camera that Google says is the best zoom yet on a Pixel, and a 10.5MP front-facing camera for the sharpest selfies you’ve ever taken.
The Pixel 8 Pro will sport a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a 1-120Hz refresh rate, and under the hood will be the Tensor G3. The phone has 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB and 512GB of storage. The Pixel 8 will carry a 6.2-inch display with FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and the bar on the back will feature a 50MP primary camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. Up front will be a 10MP selfie snapper.
