French health tech company, Withings, known for its range of home health devices, is stepping into a new category with the introduction of BeamO. Positioned as a “multiscope,” BeamO is tailored to offer patients easy access to vital health readings during telehealth consultations, addressing the increasing popularity of remote healthcare visits.
BeamO, described as “smaller than a smartphone,” is designed to provide real-time insights into key health metrics during teleconference health calls. It functions as a digital thermometer with additional capabilities, serving as an electrocardiogram (ECG), oximeter, and stethoscope. This multifunctional device aims to enhance the diagnostic capabilities of healthcare providers during remote consultations.
As telehealth visits surged during the pandemic, Withings recognized the need for devices that enable health professionals to conduct routine checks remotely. BeamO seeks to address this gap by combining the functionality of multiple medical instruments into a compact and portable device.
The key health metrics measured by BeamO include SpO2, heart rate, and ECG, all presented on its integrated display. The system also allows the connection of headphones via a USB-C to audio jack adapter, facilitating audio transmission to healthcare providers through a dedicated app.
With FDA clearance pending for features like atrial fibrillation (AFib) detection, BeamO is expected to be available for purchase in July, priced at $250. With this innovative multiscope device, Withings aims to offer a convenient and cost-effective solution for routine health monitoring during telehealth interactions.
