Audio technology giant Bose has unveiled its latest product, the Ultra Open Earbuds, in collaboration with fashion and lifestyle brand Kith. This announcement comes in the wake of a leak during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), providing a glimpse of the unique design characterized by earbuds that clip onto the ears, allowing ambient sounds to permeate the ear canal. While specific technical details remain elusive, Bose shared noteworthy features of its new creation.
The Ultra Open Earbuds, according to Bose, boast an “innovative cuff-shaped design with polished, soft edges and a stunning finish.” Unlike its predecessor’s “open” model, these earbuds secure to the sides of the ears, eschewing the traditional over-the-ear hook. Described as more of a fashion accessory than an “audio wearable,” Bose emphasizes that users can comfortably wear the Ultra Open Earbuds with hats, glasses, or jewelry, given their lower placement on the ear. The company highlights improved comfort and “all-day wear,” as users no longer have to compromise between being attuned to their surroundings or enjoying audio content.
While detailed specifications are currently limited, Kith’s website provided additional insights, describing the design as having “a light-as-air grip” and featuring “a flexible joint” for easy wearability. The earbuds offer up to seven and a half hours of playtime, incorporating Bose Immersive Audio for spatial sound and an array of cutting-edge technologies. Notably, the iconic Bose branding is replaced with the Kith logo, showcased in a consistent lettering style on both the earbuds and the charging case. This collaboration marks Bose’s inaugural partnership with a fashion brand, opting to reveal an entirely new product rather than a limited-edition variant of an existing one.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are set to be available for purchase at $300 starting January 22 on Kith.com and in select Kith stores, with availability in “extremely limited quantities.” While speculation arises about a potential standalone version with Bose branding, the current announcement does not provide insight into such future releases.
