New York— renowned influencer MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson, disclosed that he generated over $250,000 from a single video posted on X. This revelation highlights the substantial potential earnings for major internet personalities through the social platform’s ad revenue sharing initiative.
“In my first X video, I made over $250,000!” MrBeast announced in a post on the platform. Alongside the announcement, he shared what appeared to be a screenshot of X’s creator payment screen, revealing earnings of $263,655.
X, owned by Elon Musk, introduced a program in July to share a portion of ad revenue displayed in replies to high-performing content with the creators, provided they subscribe to the platform’s premium service. This move aimed to incentivize creators to produce quality content on X, attracting advertisers and aligning the platform with industry competitors such as Meta, YouTube, and TikTok.
MrBeast, known for his elaborate YouTube videos, had initially expressed hesitancy about regularly posting on X due to the substantial costs associated with his productions. However, last week, he decided to test X’s ad revenue sharing program by uploading one of his previous videos, featuring the exploration of various expensive cars. The video garnered over 160 million views on X by Tuesday.
Following the payout from X, MrBeast announced plans to distribute the earned money to “10 random people that repost this and follow me” on X. He did not specify whether he intends to continue sharing videos on the platform.
While MrBeast’s significant payout indicates the potential for meaningful earnings on X’s nascent program, he cautioned that not all creators might have the same experience. In his post, he noted that advertisers likely contributed to the increased revenue per view due to the attention his video received.
MrBeast’s substantial audience on X, boasting over 27.5 million followers, likely contributed to the strong engagement with his posts and the associated ads. However, not everyone has responded positively to X’s creator program.
Conservative political commentator Dan Bongino, previously banned from YouTube for posting Covid-19 misinformation, shared a screenshot on X indicating a payment of just $379 from the platform. He criticized the payout to MrBeast as “shady.” Concerns have also been raised about the potential impact of X’s program, including the possibility of encouraging inflammatory or offensive content for increased engagement.
