Apple has announced that its new mixed reality headset, set to start shipping tomorrow, will offer users access to over 600 apps and games, marking the debut of its long-awaited gadget.
The company, led by CEO Tim Cook, is expected to unveil its earnings this afternoon, with investors eager for early insights into the performance of the Apple Vision Pro. Notably, this includes a Max app feature inspired by HBO’s popular series “The Game of Thrones.”
According to Casey Bloys, chairman-CEO of HBO and Max Content, the Max app for Apple Vision Pro will transport fans into the immersive world of Westeros, specifically the iconic Red Keep’s Iron Throne Room. Bloys expressed excitement about the app’s ability to recreate the Targaryen-era ambiance, providing viewers with a deeply engaging experience.
The Max app offers a wide range of content, including movies, series, breaking news, and live sports, with select titles available in 4K and Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. This Vision Pro app, described as the spatial computing version of the streaming service, operates on visionOS, Apple Vision Pro’s proprietary operating system, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. It promises to offer Max subscribers a novel and immersive way to enjoy the extensive catalog of over 37,000 hours of programming.
Last month, Apple unveiled a preview of Vision Pro apps, including a special mention from Bob Iger for the Vision Pro Disney+ app. This app features immersive environments inspired by Disney’s iconic settings, such as The Disney+ Theater, the Scare Floor from Pixar’s “Monsters Inc.,” Marvel’s Avengers Tower, and the cockpit of Luke Skywalker’s landspeeder from the “Star Wars” galaxy.
Additionally, the Apple TV App boasts a “Cinema Environment,” enabling users to transform their space into a personalized movie theater, complete with various seating options.
Today, Apple revealed a diverse range of apps spanning entertainment, sports, gaming, and productivity.
Susan Prescott, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Developer Relations, expressed enthusiasm for the innovative experiences created by the global developer community for the Apple Vision Pro platform. She highlighted the vast array of spatial experiences available in the all-new App Store, alongside the extensive library of over 1 million compatible apps across iOS and iPadOS, offering users boundless possibilities for exploration.
