Tesla CEO Elon Musk has highlighted the significance of real-world simulation and video generation, drawing attention to advancements in this domain following the introduction of OpenAI’s Sora generative video model.

The unveiling of OpenAI’s text-to-video generative model, Sora, was announced on Thursday via the organization’s official website, showcasing a series of AI-generated videos produced by the system. Responding to this development, Musk took to X platform to showcase some of Tesla’s own generative video creations, initially introduced by the company the previous year. Over the past few days, Musk has engaged in multiple posts and replies, discussing both OpenAI’s broader initiatives and Tesla’s endeavors in real-world video generation.

In response to a suggestion that Tesla venture into video game development, Musk expressed longstanding interest in the idea, clarifying that the company’s focus currently lies in launching unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities to the public before pursuing such ventures. He emphasized Tesla’s commitment to perfecting real-world simulation and video generation, asserting its superiority in this regard globally.

Musk elaborated further in a Saturday post, revealing Tesla’s year-long capability to execute real-world video generation with precise physics simulation. However, he noted that the generated videos lacked intrigue initially as they were based on training data sourced from Tesla vehicles, resembling conventional Tesla footage despite being dynamically generated.

OpenAI’s Sora empowers users to create minute-long videos by simply inputting a text prompt. Additionally, a comprehensive thread by X user Min Choi showcases various capabilities of the generative video model.

Musk’s relationship with OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, has been marked by controversy, particularly following his tenure on the company’s board alongside Altman in its early stages. Musk has been vocal in critiquing OpenAI’s transition from a non-profit entity to a for-profit organization in recent months. Moreover, he established his AI venture, xAI, and launched its inaugural product, a generative language model named Grok, in November last year.
