Tesla has unveiled a new charging infrastructure at its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, featuring over 500 charging posts that are free and accessible to the public, employees, visitors, and guests.

Announced by the company’s manufacturing account on X morning, the initiative underscores Tesla’s commitment to bolstering electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. The accompanying image showcased a bustling parking lot with various Tesla and other EV models utilizing what appears to be Tesla’s Gen 3 Wall Connectors.

Tesla’s Gen 3 Wall Connectors are designed to accommodate all EVs equipped with the Type 2 DC charging port. They offer a charging rate of up to 71 km (~44 miles) per hour with a charging power of up to 22 kW in three-phase networks. Equipped with a 7.3-meter (~24-foot) cable, these chargers facilitate convenient access to charging ports located in various spots on vehicles.

Situated outside Berlin in Grünheide, Brandenburg, the Gigafactory also hosts a V4 Supercharger station, operational since November. Additionally, Tesla has introduced several amenities for both employees and the public, including a train service to and from neighboring communities and a new lobby opened last November.

However, recent developments have highlighted challenges for Tesla’s expansion plans in the area. Last week, the Grünheide community voted against proposed expansions to Tesla’s automotive factory. The rejection, with 3,499 residents voting against the plans, primarily cited concerns over deforestation, which would encompass approximately 100 hectares and negatively impact the local environment.

Despite the setback, Tesla remains committed to its expansion goals. An executive emphasized Brandenburg’s support for the project, indicating the company’s determination to proceed with the planned expansion.

Currently, Gigafactory Berlin produces the Model Y, with future plans to manufacture Tesla’s next-generation affordable vehicle. Despite facing disruptions in January due to armed conflicts affecting supply chain logistics, the factory quietly achieved a production milestone of 6,000 Model Y units per week earlier this month.
